Answer

A call number is used to uniquely identify each item in the library.  Cobb Library follows the Dewey classification system, which assigns materials to 10 different groups, arranged by numbers.

When you search for an item in the online catalog, the record will return a call number, which will start with a 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9.

You use this number to find the item on the shelf, since each item has its own unique number assigned to it.
